Bringing Frederick Rasch onto the set of Apparition was a journey in itself. Traveling all the way from Baton Rouge to Omaha to portray the character of Blake Davis, Fred brought a powerful spirit that was felt the moment he arrived.
I remember him calling me just before boarding his flight in Louisiana; he was a bit nervous because I wouldn't be able to meet him at the airport myself. My script supervisor, Helena, took charge and greeted him with his name on a sign—a classic movie-moment welcome. When I caught up with him shortly after he landed, his nerves had vanished. He told me, 'I’m having the time of my life!'
That enthusiasm carried directly onto the set. Because of the tight schedule, I hadn't been able to rehearse with Fred beforehand. I wondered if he could step into the shoes of Blake Davis on such short notice, but he proved himself immediately. He had no problem whatsoever capturing the essence of the character. Fred is a true natural, and his presence was a blessing to the production.
